kaiten sushi camera

this is quite great. if you have the time and patience, to watch the camera's journey reveals a little something about japan. it is a lovely view of families and friends out at their local family restaurant, and i like how no one makes a really big kerfuffle about the camera passing on by. the comments are mostly along the lines of 'what's this?', the kids are great, one woman orders two of the camera:) and when it gets to the kitchen, the waitresses are worried that someone has forgotten it, but the waiter knows it was the gaijin who placed it on to take the movie of the restaurant. he is totally polite in his references to the film makers, and the staff pop it back on the conveyor for it to complete its journey. it (perhaps surprisingly) makes a really nice little, human film.

note: i am not sure if this was one of the first to do this, but when i searched for it on youtube, there were quite a few, which is a bit of a pity i think, i thought it was a nice little once off thing. i particularly like the style of the gaijin who made this one, very understated, this one is by far the best...

  2. Oh yes I saw this a little while ago - isn't it just fantastic! Oh as a gaijin I would never do that though! eek! I would feel too disrespectful! But...really enjoyed watching it in any case!

  3. hi kate and ebony! it is a nice idea for sure, i agree ebony, there is something a little intrusive or something there perhaps, but on the otherhand it is quite innocent as well? but that's why i didn;t like seeing all the other ones on youtube - some of them were classic 'gaijin behaviour', but these girls seemed to be nicely understated, and i do like the insight it gives to japanese character, it maybe contradicts some of the preconceptions some people might have about 'japan' and 'japanese'?? interested in thoughts...

  4. Gorgeous Bree! I was soaking up every second of it. How cute and yes loved the way it captured ordinary sushi-eating life in Japan. Will pass it on to other Japanophiles I know.

  10. This is such a great little fun movie!! I really enjoyed it. It's quite amazing how much you can see from there on the conveyor, and yes it shows a lot doesn't it! I haven't been to this restaurant style kaiten sushi (only the ones where all the sushi chefs are inside the conveyor) so it was extra enjoyable for me ;)
